April 12, 2007
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Thursday, April 12, 2007) Head coach Tom Farden and assistant coach Brogan Jacobsen-Evanson have received commitments from three athletes during the spring signing period. The three new signees mark a total of six newcomers for the 2008 squad.
The Redhawks signed Lauren Dinan and Brianna Gaddie to National Letters of Intent and received a commitment from Amanda Schoenbaum to walk-on to the team.
Dinan, younger sister of current Redhawk gymnast Jennifer Dinan, is currently a senior at Doniphan-Trumbull High School in Doniphan, Neb. where she carries a 3.8 GPA. Her performance strengths in order from strongest to weakest are beam, bars, floor and vault. Dinan was last year's L10 State Champion and was a L10 Regional Qualifier and National 1st Alternate. This season, she is the L10 Bars State Champion and has qualified for regional competition.
"I chose to become a student at Southeast Missouri State because of the excellent gymnastics program and coaching staff. The gymnastics team works well together and the girls all get along with each other. I also like that SEMO is a smaller university with a good academic and wildlife management program." - Lauren Dinan
"Lauren is a strong student and comes from a great family," said Farden. She has a great work ethic and is the type of athlete whom we can plug in on any event".
Gaddie is currently a senior at East Grand Forks High School in East Grand Forks, Minn. where she carries a 3.95 GPA. Her strongest events from strongest to weakest are floor, vault, beam and bars. In 2005, Gaddie had an excellent season finishing strong at state and regional but had to sit out the next year because of an ankle injury. This season, the gymnast finished the all-round at State competition with a 35.425.
Brianna Gaddie
"I had a blast on my recruiting trip! The girls were really nice. The campus is the perfect size, and the weather is a definite plus. Coach Farden is great and I think that I will be able to learn a lot from him through these next 4 years." - Brianna Gaddie
"Brianna is an outstanding student in the classroom," Farden said. She has an excellent vault that starts from 10.0 and her floor routine is packed with power tumbling. We are confident that she will continue to improve and threaten to make line up on all four events."
The third addition to the team, Amanda Schoenbaum, will be listed as a walk on and hails from Bentonville, Ark. She currently attends Bentonville High School and carries a 3.56 GPA. Her strongest events are floor and beam, followed by vault and bars. After sitting out the 2005 season on the injured list, Schoenbaum tackled the 2006 season strong as she was the L9 Arkansas State Champion on beam, floor and all-around. She was the L9 beam champion and 5th best all-arounder at regional and finished the Western Nationals third on beam and sixth on vault and all-around.
"I love gymnastics. Southeast Missouri State is offering me the opportunity to compete and I couldn't be more excited. It is the perfect size school for me and the atmosphere is right. I could see myself attending when I walked on campus. Southeast offers my intended major (Graphics design/Marketing) and my aunt, Laurie Chaney (Schoenbaum), was an All-American gymnast at SEMO in the early 80s." - Amanda Schoenbaum
"Amanda is very good on the balance beam and shows great promise on the other three events, said Farden. "Her dedication will be an asset to our team."
The three gymnasts that signed in the fall are Christina Sundgren, Kara Gibbons and Erica Moore.
"We have a total of six freshmen coming next fall," Farden said. "Each one of them are outstanding academically and will play a role on our team with their gymnastics talents.
