Austin Peay picked to win. (199 points) 2. Eastern Kentucky (166) 3. Tennessee Tech (160) 4. Murray State (149) 5. Southeast Missouri (131) 6. Tennessee State (101) 7. Samford (85) 8. Eastern Illinois (75) 9. Jacksonville State (61) 10. Morehead State (50) 11. UT Martin (33)
ALL-OVC Team APSU's Drake Reed Pre-season POY APSU- Fernandez Lockett TTU- Anthony Fisher TTU- Amandi McKenzie Murray- Bruce Carter EKU- Mike Rose EKU- Adam Leonard SEMO- Brandon Foust EIU- Romain Martin SU- Travis Peterson
My Thoughts: Same top four as last year. Look at Samford's ranking.... one reason why they're leaving? Maybe things aren't going the way they thought they would here in the OVC.
Your Thoughts?

The top 4 are pretty much interchangable. If Price is back to 100%, then TSU is going to be scary. I'm not suprised that Morehead was picked so low. They have so many new faces and most of the schools in the conference return almost everything from last year. I do think Morehead will finish middle of the pack though and make the OVC Tournament again.
Samford? Who cares.....never really wanted them in the OVC anyways.

I can't really say that the top 4 bing the same suprises me but that is why they play the games. The OVC is a guards league and I think that is why Samford isn't picked very high. The style they play will get them some wins. I also think Samford leaving the OVC isn't just about their success in mens basketball or lack there of. They are leaving the ovc because the socon is better in the key sports and these numbers prove it to a certain extent. I also think within 2 years that Jack State will be gone from the OVC which would put the ovc back to square 1 in terms of getting 12 teams for B-ball.
Did anyone attend media day and was the question raised about adding 2 teams and getting the league to 12 teams is BB?
The numbers I mentioned.......

I don't see why we would have to add two schools if JSU leaves. If they bolt for the Sun Belt, then we'd have 9 schools and a ballanced 16 game league schedule where everyone plays head to head twice. Now, if JSU doesn't leave, then East Tennessee and Western Illinois would be the two schools I would want most. I'd actually want Chattanooga over Western Illinois, but the Mocs already shot us down. WIU and ETSU would both be good fits for the OVC. People can talk all they want about Northern Kentucky, but until they start football there's no chance...plus, NKU is a better fit in the Horizon Conference or the Mid-Con.

I'd like to pose another question within this post. If you're school were to leave the OVC in the future, which conference would you like to see your team strive for? Be realistic here. There's no way any OVC team will end up in the Big 10 or 12.

Missouri Valley. We would have to increase our athletic budget quite a bit to compete but they would be my first choice.

Geographically, TTU really cannot go anywhere. They would immediately fall to the bottom of the pack of the Southern - and really struggle there, other sports - they might be okay. The Big South would propose tough travel situations, too. Of course, I base this on continuing to play FCS football, TTU would go to D II as was rumored a few years ago, or non-scholarship FB before they ever dreamed of going FBS in football. I don't see them ever leaving (or winning) the OVC anytime soon...(BB tourney or FB)

TTU would be very competitive in the Southern Conf. I am not sure where you get your opinions from but I have talked with guys who have coached in both and they say it is very even. It just depends on what year it is. Do you think a Murray fan would ever say they could not compete in the Socon?

Morehead State will finish higher than 10th. We're too talented. If MSU were to leave the OVC then it should be C-USA. It will never happen, but it would be nice to be in a conference with Marshall again. As it stands now, I think the Eagles need to be in the OVC in EVERY sport.

I don't think TTU could compete right now in the SoCon in Football. Men's and Women's B'ball: yes. I only base that on what I've seen (and played) on the FB field the past 15 years. They struggled with Chattanooga, which has been a cellar dwellar. From what I've seen, Furman, App. St., GA Southern, Wofford, Elon are a lot better than most OVC teams, sorry to say. I always ride on the pessimistic side, but I think TTU has a ways to go, before considering itself among the top 16 in FCS (I hope I'm wrong next year, this year was better than I expected on the field until our QB injury situation killed us).

No way Morehead ever leaves the OVC. There's no other conference that would work geographically. CUSA would be nice, but not realistic. If we were to leave the OVC, it would have to be either the Big South, Horizon, or Atlantic Sun....and none of those would be attractive options.
