With exhibition games currently underway, how are our teams looking so far?
I watched Morehead beat a very good Mountain State team last night 76-72. Mountain State is ranked 3rd in NAIA and was a very big, fast, athletic team. It looked like we were playing an OVC school last night. By far the best exhibition team I've ever seen Morehead play. The Eagles looked good for the most part....21 turnovers was pretty ugly, but they shot the ball well and apparently they can now hit their free throws....a problem that cost us some games last year. We're also much quicker and athletic as a team.
Stojakovic was very good at the point. Stallworth looks to have improved his all around game. Steward is probably the most improved of the returning players.
Of the new guys, Faried and Lamb are going to be special players at MSU. Buchanan, although only 6'5, plays like a beast in the post....much like Shaun Williams, but with a little more control. Simmons only played one minute last night because of the flu, but he was really impressive in the intra-sqaud scrimage last week.
So, what's the word on other teams?

SEMO looked good offensively in the game I saw last week. They still can't play a bit of defense so it could be another long year in Cape. The new guys are fun to watch. They don't know SEMO players are supposed to miss free throws and hopefully they won't learn that particular lesson. I believe UTM plays on ESPNU tonight. Anybody else going to watch?

Sounds like Morehead has a lot of reason to expect a successful season. Looking forward to the match up tomorrow night. Hope your team and fans have a safe trip to Houston.
